Project description

The former observation tower from 1931 fell victim to arson in October 2017 and left an open wound in the city forest and in the hearts of Frankfurt’s residents.

The reconstruction of this 43-metre-high public observation tower in the Frankfurt city forest was carried out using a structure consisting mainly of sweet chestnut glulam beams. The choice of wood for these beams was determined by the durability and stability provided by sweet chestnut, as well as its suitability for outdoor use without the need for preservation treatment. The FSC sustainability certification and the CE certificate awarded by the Otto-Graf Institute of MPA Stuttgart (Germany) were the reasons for the choice of sweet chestnut glulam beams.
