Project description
Portuguese architectural studio Virgula I has used the local Iberian sweet chestnut tree wood to introduce warmth and character into this hotel renovation in the town of Vila Nova de Cerveira. Following a closer relationship with the site, Virgula I’s ‘hotel Minho’ extension uses sweet chestnut wood as one of the main features. The timber is applied both internally and externally to visually link these areas, and also to create a warm contrast to the plain white walls of the existing buildings. Part of the spaces are clad with sweet chestnut boards and feature ceilings made of wooden slats.
